There are 2 types of sugar:
1. White Sugar (GKP=Gula Kristal Putih)
2. Refined Sugar (GKR=Gula Kristal Rafinasi)

The above classification is based on the color of crystal sugar, represented as ICUMSA Unit (IU). The lower the ICUMSA, the whiter the crystal sugar. The ICUMSA of the White Crystal Sugar (GKP) is usually between 200-300 IU. The White Sugar is distributed through wet market or supermarket for direct consumption.

The Refined Sugar (GKR), which has lower ICUMSA (see below Refined Sugar Standard), is intended for Food, Beverage or Pharmaceutical Industry which require sugar with excellent purity.

Definition :
Polarization: Measurement of sucrose content in sugar. 100 are maximum and means 100% sucrose. Raw sugar is usually traded basis 96 polarization.

ICUMSA: International Commission for Uniform Methods of Sugar Analysis. A scale of measurement for the colour of sugar, represented as ICUMSA Unit (IU). The lower the ICUMSA , the whiter the sugar.
A reducing sugar is any sugar that, in a solution, has an aldehyde or a ketone group (Wikipedia definition)
